Part of our mission here at Harvest Café is to provide a community space for local artists. Beginning modestly in 2003, we hosted literature readings for Hudson High School’s Creative Writing class. Since then Harvest Café has expanded its offerings, including art exhibits and openings, poetry, and musical performances. Please stop by the Café and support the local arts scene, from our music schedule to visual arts exhibits.
Music,Music, Music! Wednesday through Saturday evenings, 8-10pm
Check out our live music schedule with weblinks and bios online on our calendar down below to see who is playing next week.Originally established on the 3rd Thursday of the month, It seems to have migrated to the first Thursday of the month. There is room for 18-24 people who will sit informally in the lounge each month for our new wine seminar. We have partnered with Michael Hynes from Bacon's Wine and Spirits and our local wine reps. to present the seminars and to make many of our wines available for retail purchase. Look for future joint ventures with Bacon's down the road.
Book Club is usually the Second Thursday of the month in the Lounge at 7pm.
This Month's selection is as follows: "Eat Pray Love", by Elizabeth Gilbert Book ReviewsBOOKLIST
A Starred Review. "Gilbert, author of The Last American Man (2002) and a well-traveled I'll-try-anything-once journalist, chronicles her intrepid quest for spiritual healing. Driven to despair by a punishing divorce and an anguished love affair, Gilbert flees New York for sojourns in the three Is. She goes to Italy to learn the language and revel in the cuisine, India to meditate in an ashram, and Indonesia to reconnect with a healer in Bali. This itinerary may sound self-indulgent or fey, but there is never a whiny or pious or dull moment because Gilbert is irreverent, hilarious, zestful, courageous, intelligent, and in masterful command of her sparkling prose. A captivating storyteller with a gift for enlivening metaphors, Gilbert is Anne Lamott's hip, yoga-practicing, footloose younger sister, and readers will laugh and cry as she recounts her nervy and outlandish experiences and profiles the extraordinary people she meets. As Gilbert switches from gelato to kundalini Shakti to herbal cures Balinese-style, she ponders the many paths to divinity, the true nature of happiness, and the boon of good-hearted, sexy love. Gilbert's sensuous and audacious spiritual odyssey is as deeply pleasurable as it is enlightening." by Donna Seaman
There is always an interesting discussion and great points of view. Join us.
In order to make the book selections interactive, and perhaps to set up some online discussion for those that can't make a monthly meeting, I have set up a blog for us to use:
Knitting Night is the Third Thursday of the month in the lounge at 7pm.
Harvest Cafe's knitting night meets informally in lounge on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Bring what you are working on, or begin something new. Other knitters will share tips, socialize, eat, drink and be merrily knit the evening away. Dinner is served 5-9pm with desserts, beverages and snacks available until closing. Sign up for knitting group emails as well.
Songwriter Circle Workshop in the lounge 1pm on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
